About

Jackie LaBonte

I am Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who has worked in human services for over 15 years. I have worked in several therapeutic settings including community mental health care, inpatient psychiatric hospital, outpatient therapist and as a trauma informed yoga/meditation teacher. All of these experiences have and continue to inform the way I approach therapy with my clients. My therapeutic approach is informed by a psychodynamic framework, a deep belief in the body and mind connection and the perspective that each individual client deserves their own unique therapeutic experience.

My Approach

I draw from a range of modalities including psychodynamic, mindfulness based stress reduction techniques and attachment theory.

I believe that clients come to sessions with a range of experiences not only in their relationships to their families, friends and themselves but also their unique experience of society, culture and oppressive systems. All of these experiences are integral to better understanding each clients individual needs in the therapy space and I take them all into account when working together.

I am not a prescriptive therapist and while we may practice coping mechanisms in therapy, I believe the best coping comes from deep understanding rather than tips and tricks.

I specialize in working with individuals with histories of trauma. I studied Trauma sensitive yoga, Yoga Nida and Mindfulness techniques for those who experience physical ramifications and manifestation of their past trauma.

As a social worker I am committed to social justice and being part of undoing oppressive systems and recreating a world that serves all people.

Apart from therapy I have a deep love of travel and have extensively traveled internationally in my youth, but slowed down in recent years due to enjoying a slower paced life of family and the rewarding nature of my work. I enjoy hiking, photography, live music and reading.
